Learning Isn't All Fun and Games - But It's Close

Parents' Choice Foundation suggests toys and games to keep the learning alive this summer. From matching and memory games for the youngest to games that test strategy and critical thinking skills, arithmetic and visual acumen, Parents' Choice offers toys and games that families can play and learn together.

TIMONIUM, MD (PRWEB) June 23, 2004 -- Parents' Choice Foundation announced its newest Parents Choice Award winners -- toys and games that will keep kids learning all summer long. Parents should not be timid about providing toys and games that reinforce concepts children have learned throughout the school year. From matching and memory games for the youngest to games that test strategy and critical thinking skills, arithmetic and visual acumen, Parents' Choice offers toys and games that families can play and learn together.

Gamewright's Ricochet (ages 10 and up $5.99) challenges math and visual skills and Ravensburger's Haunted Castle (ages 5 and up $6.99). Wordigo (Ages 8 and up, RiverEdge Game Co., LLC. $24.95) an inventive variation on the crossword theme, utilizes four game boards simultaneously --and levels the playing field for children and adults.

The Parents' Choice Awards have, for over twenty-five years, recognized products that help children grow -- imaginatively, physically, morally and mentally-fairly priced products that are fun, safe and socially sound.

According to Parents' Choice Foundation president Claire Green, "Parents' Choice Award winners give kids a chance to practice what they've been learning -- in new ways, with new perspective. Word and math games are anything but dull. Discovering the science behind soap bubbles, or learning about the aerodynamics of flying paper airplanes makes for great summer fun."

Established in 1978, Parents' Choice Foundation is the nation's oldest nonprofit guide to quality children's media products and toys. Products recognized by the Parents' Choice Awards program must meet and exceed standards set by panels of educators, scientists, performing artists, librarians, parents, and yes, kids themselves. Green states, "Parents' Choice Award winners challenge, inspire and stimulate creative thinking. They strike a wonderful balance between learning and play."
