Wasp Factory Records Releases its Music Digitally on Mperia for 50 Cents a Track

Wasp Factory Records and BitPass are helping to change music distribution with the digital release of almost 100 tracks of music on Mperia.com. Mperia is democratizing the distribution of music by giving independent artists a platform to sell directly to their fans, control pricing, and set their own release dates. Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, UK and Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) June 29, 2004 -- Wasp Factory Records and BitPass are helping to change music distribution with the digital release of almost 100 tracks of music on Mperia.com. Mperia lets Wasp Factory release music quickly and reach its international fans that dont always have easy access to CDs.

Created to let independent artists and labels maintain control of their music and its pricing, Mperia is a site that is changing the landscape of digital music downloads. Mperia is a platform that allows labels like Wasp Factory and artists to upload, price, and sell music directly to fans without restricting distribution rights or limiting access. Using Mperia, artists can sell tracks for as little as 25 cents and still keep the vast majority of their profits.

Wasp Factory's artists Earth Loop Recall, Tarantella Serpentine, Psychophile, Arkam Asylum, The Chaos Engine, Deathboy, and Goteki are currently selling their music at Mperia. Attracting fans from the UK, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Deathboy and Goteki have been best sellers since BitPass launched Mperia in February. The label plans to make the rest of its catalogue available in the near future and is already talking about a string of Mperia-exclusive releases.

Mark Eris, a spokesman for Wasp Factory, finds that Mperia's do-it-yourself approach to digital distribution and its favorable terms for artists captures the spirit of independent music. "Mperia is pretty much the digital distribution platform we'd have set up ourselves if they hadn't done it for us. There are numerous options for digital distribution but Mperia is unique in specifically offering a platform for small labels like ourselves to shine and be noticed. If MP3s came with a rider and groupies, you can bet theyd have come from Mperia."

Mperia allows fans to create profiles, bookmark their favorite music, and sign-up for gig reminders. By combining social networking features with musical content, Mperia provides fans a way to discover new music through their network rather then relying on best seller lists that might not represent their musical tastes. Now Wasp Factory fans in Australia can easily connect with fans in the UK and exchange other music they find interesting.

About Wasp Factory Records
Wasp Factory Records was started in 1999 when Lee Chaos, having experienced both the horrors that can come from selling your soul to an established record company and the disinterest from the mainstream music media, said 'Sod It' and formed Wasp Factory to focus on artists in the grey areas where alternative rock meets contemporary electronica. Four years on, the label's impressive catalogue is distributed internationally, with many of its artists building up an impressive live reputation on foreign shores. The label won the UK's prestigious Young Music Professionals Award in 2003. Visit Wasp Factory Records at http://www.wasp-factory.com/ .
