University of Delaware Chooses Roaring Penguin Softwares CanIt-PRO, Gives End-Users Control Over Fighting E-Mail Spam

Positive experience using robust MIMEDefang software leads networking and systems group to upgrade to commercial product.

(PRWEB) July 6, 2004 -- The University of Delaware has chosen Roaring Penguin Softwares CanIt-PRO anti-spam software. CanIt-PRO will provide the universitys 25,000 students, faculty and staff with relief from e-mail spam.

Jason Cash, manager of information technology network systems & services (ITNSS) at the University of Delaware, said, In the process of planning to build our own anti-spam and anti-virus solution, we established our criteria for such a system. We discovered Roaring Penguin Softwares CanIt-PRO to have all the features we wanted, and we already knew that its underlying technology was incredibly robust."

The university had been using Roaring Penguins MIMEDefang e-mail filter for about a year on a high-traffic mail server, processing about 400,000 messages per day. Cash said, MIMEDefang performs very well. Its a very robust technology and it increased our comfort level in choosing CanIt-PRO, which is based on MIMEDefang."

With CanIt-PRO, the university is able to provide individual end-users with the ability to choose whether their e-mail is filtered, and how. Through CanIt-PROs end-user interface, e-mail users may opt in or out of mail filtering, or choose a particular level of filtering that best suits their needs. More advanced users also have access to an advanced interface that allows them to manage their own Spam Traps, whitelists and blacklists.

Dr. Daniel Grim, director of ITNSS, added, CanIt-PROs open-source-base was also an important factor in our choice of anti-spam solution. In our technology systems at the University of Delaware, we implement open standards and open source wherever possible. CanIt-PRO fit neatly into this initiative, and having the source code makes it possible for us to customize the product in any way we choose."

CanIt offers the industry's most complete and flexible anti-spam and anti-virus solution. It can be deployed in any enterprise e-mail environment, including on all Linux and UNIX servers. As a stand-alone gateway appliance, it can protect e-mail environments running non-UNIX servers, such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes and Novell Groupwise.

CanIt is available in standard and professional versions as either a software download or on a plug-and-play appliance. CanIt-PRO is ideal for campuses, ISPs, web hosts and very large enterprises, where control and management of the system needs to be distributed to individual departments or users. A trial version can be obtained at http://www.roaringpenguin.com/anti_spam/get_canit_request.php.
