Sunshine Factory Presents "Breaking Boundaries"
An Exhibit of Graffiti and Graf-Inspired Artwork
(PRWEB) July 6, 2004 -- Sunshine Factory is delighted to present Breaking Boundaries, a selection of graffiti and graf-inspired artwork by over a dozen artists crossing cultures, traditions and genres.
Since it struck the streets with its bold images, blazing colors and visual rhythms over 30 years ago, graffiti has evolved from an inner-city expression into a global phenomenon.
Working with spray paints, markers, ballpoint pens, acrylics, and oils on a variety of media ranging from subway maps to Plexiglas, the artists represented here defy definition.
Representing a broad spectrum of cultural heritages, some hail from the South Bronx; others from suburban Connecticut. Some hold Masters of Fine Arts Degrees; others were schooled on the streets. Some report daily to their midtown offices; others seldom leave their studios.
But they are all together here breaking boundaries melding image to text in the gritty, gutsy genre celebrated as graffiti.
Represented in this exhibit are: Meres, Jasky Raju, David Pham, Josh Gura, Elliot Bassman. Michael Ponce, Carlucci, Dani Reyes Mozeson, Tina Gauthier, Christian Cortes, James Pyle, Anibal Pedrino and J-nub.
A reception for the artists will be held on Thursday July 15 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm.
The gallery is located at 11 Essex Street between Canal and Hester Streets. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 5:00pm and Sunday, 9:00am – 5:00pm.
