KUA Adds RSS Feed to Web Site

RSS is an XML-based format that allows the syndication of information to interested subscribers.

KISSIMMEE, FL (PRWEB) July 16, 2004 -- In a continued effort to bring news and information to its customers, Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) on Wednesday became the first utility in Florida to implement an RSS news feed on its Web site.

RSS (or Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based format that allows the syndication of information to interested subscribers. This allows a computer user to be alerted when content of particular interest appears on a Web site. Instead of visiting a particular Web site to browse for new articles and features, RSS automatically tells you when something new is posted online.

To achieve this, KUA developed an RSS feed, or channel, for its Web site. Computer users using a special software program -- called a news aggregator -- can regularly receive the latest and most updated information from the utility. The aggregator is capable of managing a number of feeds and presents them in a single interface.

"We have all found ourselves jumping back to the same Web sites a couple times a day, just to see if anything new has been posted," said Rob Morris, KUA's Internet programmer. "RSS brings the updated information to your desktop as it happens."

Many of the nation's top news sites like the New York Times, Washington Post, Yahoo.com and others have recently implemented RSS feeds.

A number of free and commercial news aggregators are available for download. Popular news readers include NewsGator, AmphetaDesk, NetNewsWire, and Radio Userland.

To get KUA.com syndicated on your site or in your aggregator, simply add the feed http://webservices.kua.com/KUANews/RSS/RSS.xml to the list of subscriptions.

Founded in 1901, KUA is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric, water, and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
