Haiti Selects Florida Company for Maritime Counterterrorism Assistance
The government of Haiti announced that following an international competition it has selected SeaSecure LLC, a global leader in maritime security, to provide comprehensive maritime counterterrorism assistance.
Ft. Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) July 22, 2004 -- The government of Haiti announced that, following an international competition, it has selected SeaSecure LLC, a global leader in maritime security and counter-terrorism consulting, to provide comprehensive maritime counterterrorism assistance. This assistance will include critical port security assessments, writing security plans for strategic port facilities, and conducting training to both government and industry.
"Haiti is reliant upon its ports for its economic survival. Our ability to ensure uninterrupted commerce is critical, particularly in light of new international security requirements," said the Hon. Jean E. Charles, the Director General for the Haitian National Port Authority. "Given the immense importance of achieving compliance with the ISPS Code and other regulations, the Haitian government instituted a rigorous selection process in search of a world-class maritime security consultant."
Director General Charles went on to announce that, "SeaSecure LLC, Haiti's new partner in port security has already performed and is pursuing comprehensive security assessments of most of the Haitian ports, and then is writing security plans for use by both the National Port Authority and the Government's Designated Authority. SeaSecure is also providing much-needed training to our port executives, security personnel, and government agencies on maritime counter-terrorism and security. The alliance of Haiti and SeaSecure will help to protect our commerce, ports, and visiting ships and crew from terrorism and crime, and we look forward to a long and beneficial relationship."
In a press conference, Kim E. Petersen, SeaSecure's President said, "All of us at SeaSecure take pride in having been selected by the new Haitian government as their partner in maritime security. SeaSecure will work closely with the National Ports Authority, the National Security Office, and the ports industry as we conclude our assessments and plans and proceed on to our long-term maritime assistance to Haiti."
In separate agreements, SeaSecure has also been selected by Haiti Cargo Terminal and International Maritime Terminal S.A., two of the largest cargo terminals in Haiti, to perform maritime security assessments and write security plans for their facilities. SeaSecure will subsequently provide training and certification in port security management and operations.
Seaport vulnerability assessments and security plans are now required due to the passage of the International Ship & Port Facility and Security Code. The ISPS Code was adopted by the UNs International Maritime Organization (IMO) to address maritime security at all international ports and the security of ships engaged in international commerce.
