Tame XP's Built-In Firewall with ICFMeister

Technology Lighthouse has released ICFMeister - a tool for monitoring and troubleshooting the activities of the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) that is built into Windows XP. ICFMeister can read ICF logs both on your PC and on other XP computers in your network, and has customizable notification facilities.

(PRWEB) July 22, 2004 -- Technology Lighthouse has released ICFMeister - a tool for monitoring and troubleshooting the activities of the Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) that is built into Windows XP.

The forthcoming service pack for XP includes an improved firewall that is enabled by default. Inevitably this will break some network and Internet applications, forcing users at all levels to confront the firewall's cryptic log files. ICFMeister can help. It delivers information from those logs in an easy to read format. Its customizable monitoring and notification facilities can alert you to hacking attempts and help you troubleshoot problems with Internet-capable programs on your computer.

A single installation of ICFMeister can read ICF logs both on your PC and on other XP computers in your network. Where possible, ICFMeister provides additional information to help make sense of the log data. Hover the mouse over an IP address, and you see the corresponding network name in a tool tip. Hover over a port number, and you get the most common uses of that port.

You can filter, sort and reorganize display columns to assist with detailed analysis and data presentation. Floating satellite windows let you minimize ICFMeister to your system tray yet still see the latest data as it arrives.

At any time you can export a log to various formats including text, csv, xml, and formatted html reports. This makes it easy to import filtered data into databases or analysis applications such as Excel. You can even publish your logs as RSS feeds.

ICFMeister monitors ICF logs 24/7, watching out for firewall activity that interests you. For example, you can configure ICFMeister to respond to incoming transmissions by issuing visual and audio alerts, sending emails, outputting filtered logs and even running your own scripts.

Wizards guide you through most configuration tasks, making ICFMeister quick and easy to set up. As a true Windows XP program, ICFMeister is also theme-aware.

ICFMeister costs $19.99(USD). A free, fully functional 30-day trial version is available from: http://www.logmeister.com/icfmeister.shtml

ICFMeister is part of the LogMeister product suite made by Technology Lighthouse, 33 Sanquhar Road, Glasgow, Scotland G53 7FU. Email: enquiries@logmeister.com. Phone: ++44 (0)141 891 5884
