Houston, Texas (PRWEB) July 27, 2004 -- Do you like pigs brain soup? Have you ever caught a whale or heard a chicken sing? Does your best friend's Mom wear combat boots?
These are just four of the 14 childrens stories which made the American Book Cooperatives Childrens Picture Book Contest list of finalists according to executive director Rita Mills. "These finalists will be presented to the reading public via website and readers will select the grand prize winner! Just go to www.abcbookcompetition.org and vote for your favorite story." The voting allows for one vote per computer address per day and ends Sunday, August 29, 2004. The winner will be announced the following Monday.
Where do children's authors get their inspiration? Gail Greenberg, author of "No Pig's Brain Soup, Please" laughs and says, "From life!" Greenberg adopted a daughter from China into her Jewish family. Greenberg says the cultural differences create some very unusual holidays at her house. When asked how she feels about becoming a finalist in the contest and winning the recognition as an author, she exclaimed, "It feels great. It's about time," she giggles, "I have enough rejection slips to paper an entire apartment!"
Only three out of 15,000 children's picture books submitted to mainstream publishers are actually printed each year. The winner of the ABC childrens picture book contest will walk away with a prize package valued at more than $30,000 and 3,000 ready-for-sale books.
