Soccer Silicon Valley Launches Website, Plans Major Rally Volunteer group gaining momentum in effort to build soccer-specific stadium in Bay Area

Soccer Silicon Valley (SSV), a grassroots group formed to support construction of a new soccer stadium in the Bay Area, has launched its website at http://www.SoccerSiliconValley.com and has announced a major rally to be held in downtown San Jose on August 20.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) July 30, 2004 -- Soccer Silicon Valley (SSV), a grassroots group formed to support construction of a new soccer stadium in the Bay Area, has launched its website at http://www.SoccerSiliconValley.com and has announced a major rally to be held in downtown San Jose on August 20.

The groups web site features news on stadium negotiations, market and demographic information on Major League Soccer and the Bay Area, and a petition which will demonstrate to local governments that an investment in soccer is an investment in the community at large. The groups goal is for soccer fans to have 'a seat at the table as negotiations and plans go forward.

While other U.S. cities such as Seattle, Houston, and Philadelphia are now competing to attract MLS expansion teams, San Jose and the Bay Area already have a championship team. That team needs a permanent home, however, such as those built in Los Angeles and Columbus, Ohio, and the stadiums either planned or under construction in Chicago, New Jersey, Dallas, and Chicago.

The Bay Area is a natural for a stadium. On the professional level, the San Jose Earthquakes have had a presence in Northern California since 1974. Major League Soccers inaugural game was held in San Jose in 1996 and the Earthquakes won the MLS Cup championship in both 2001 and 2003. The Bay Area has also hosted men and womens World Cup matches, U.S. National Team matches, and international exhibitions by teams from Europe, South and Central America.

The August 20 rally, to be held at Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park in downtown San Jose from noon-1:00 p.m., will celebrate the past, present, and future of soccer in the Bay Area. All who want to further the effort to build a permanent soccer stadium in the Bay Area are invited to attend.

About Soccer Silicon Valley: Soccer Silicon Valley is a grassroots organization consisting of soccer fans, soccer players, business leaders, and political leaders that aims to create a permanent home for professional and recreational soccer in the Bay Area. A business trade association, SSV advocates the development and construction of a soccer facility which will permanently house the San Jose Earthquakes, the Bay Areas only professional soccer team, and provide playing fields for the use of the entire soccer playing community in the Bay Area.
