With natural personal care product sales projected to hit $5.8 Billion by 2008, manufacturers and retailers are quickly responding to consumer demand.

Natural skincare, hair care and cosmetics items are projected to rocket to $5.8 billion by 2008, according to The U.S. Market for Natural Personal Care Products. Manufacturers and retailers are quickly responding to this growing trend.

Franklin Springs, GA (PRWEB) August 23, 2004 -- The use of "natural" personal care dates back centuries. In ancient Egypt Cleopatra bathed in milk and in Elizabethan times women used using vinegar to achieve their pale complexions. Herbal remedies have been passed down through the generations by all cultures.

Today, consumers are increasingly aware of healthy lifestyles and preventative measures rather than quick-fixes. People are thinking more about what they eat and its following through to what they put on their skin.

Our customers are reading beauty product labels as carefully as they read food labels. They want to know what is in the products they buy," said Rebecca Brightwell, owner of Sugar Pine Beauty (www.sugarpinebeauty.com ). If a product claims to be ‘natural consumers dont always accept that as being true. They want to want to see the ingredient list and judge for themselves. We now list product ingredients on our website and plan to increase our natural care lines by 60% this year," said Brightwell.

Growing consumer demand is also resulting in states addressing what natural" means. In January 2003, California became the first state to establish certified-organic guidelines for cosmetics, personal care products, clothing, and supplements, calling it the California Organic Products Act. According to the State of California, only products with 70% or more organic ingredients can feature the term "certified organic" on the front label. Otherwise, certified organic ingredients can be listed on the back panel. Advocates hope this will become an industry wide standard.

In the end, consumers will be the winner in the natural personal care products trend. They will have a wider variety of high quality, natural products available to them and retailers that are willing to listen.
