Chicago, IL (PRWEB) August 26, 2004
Classic Chicago house music fans have had to cling to fond memories of vibes from places like La Mirage, the Music Box, and the Warehouse. If David Sabat, Rain Lancaster, and Sujan Moore have anything to do with it, now would be a good time to create new ones.
Sabat, Lancaster, and Moore, co-founders of the Chicago House Music Association (http://chicagohousemusic.org) will host the organization's official launch party Labor Day weekend.
ÂWith house music experiencing a major resurgence in Chicago, the timing is perfect for such a fun and unifying event as this. - Sabat
The inaugural event, the 1st Annual Chicago DJ Softball Tournament, will take place on Sunday, September 5th, 2004, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the New City YMCA's Cubs Care Park (1515 N. Halsted Avenue) and is open to the public for free. DJ Teams have been formed and sponsored by music industry manufacturers Rane and Shure as well as by local night spots Sound-Bar and Martini Ranch.
ÂOur goal is to bring our industry and musical culture together in order to reach out to new audiences and the response has been overwhelming. Its great having several non-industry sponsors show their support like Pink/Vegas Energy Drink and Untitled clothing store. - Lancaster
Some of the Windy City's top talent will temporarily step away from the DJ booth and, instead, do battle on the diamond for the sponsored teams. Some notables playing include Mark Grant, Lego, and Glen Underground, just to name a few.
The tournament will kick off with house music icon Shawn Christopher performing the national anthem. The games will be played to an audio backdrop of live DJ sets, with Lego (Poontin Muzik) as the headliner. Food and beverage concessions will be on hand. There will also be a raffle with some DJ-friendly prizes from such sponsors as Numark Electronics, Mr. Peabody Records, and Wax Addict.
ÂChicago born house music has continued to thrive all around the world. In the last few months, house music and its origins have been talked about in the newspapers and displayed weekly at ChicagoÂs Summer Dance where the turnout has been phenomenal. Its long overdue for the originating city to embrace house music and culture as its own, and weÂre proud to be a part of that effort. - Sabat
The Chicago House Music AssociationÂs mission is to "preserve and inspire local and international awareness and appreciation of the culture and history of Chicago house music and its artists, producers, and DJs via the Internet, conferences, forums, and events."
