A Sweet Deal For Low Carb Dieters

Los Angeles based company, Steviva Inc., has discovered the ultimate sugar substitutes.

(PRWEB) August 28, 2004 -- Good news for those who are tired of feeling guilty about sneaking sweets into their low-carb diets. A Los Angeles based company, Steviva Inc., has discovered the ultimate sugar substitutes. Derived from the herbal plant stevia rebaudiana, Steviva Brand Stevia Powder and Steviva Brand Stevia Blend designed specifically for cooking and baking boast a level of sweetness nearly 300 times greater than that of sugar while containing no carbohydrates and virtually no calories.

Low-carb enthusiasts are not the only ones with reason to be excited. Stevia does not raise blood sugar levels when consumed. Diabetics as well as those suffering from hypoglycemia stand to reap the benefits of these non-FDA approved sugar alternatives, as indicated by researchers.

While stevia has been approved by the FDA only as a food supplement over the past 5 years their stance on the importation of stevia based products has relaxed a bit. The FDA's position on stevia is somewhat ambiguous. In 1991, citing a study, the FDA issued an import alert which effectively blocked the importation and sale of stevia in this country. Ironically, this was the year that a follow-up study found flaws in the first study and seriously questioned its results and subsequently in 1995 the block was lifted.

Because of the stevia plants prime growing conditions in Peru and Columbia, Steviva Brands, Inc. president, Thom King, has gone to great measures in order to unite with the local farmers and bring Steviva products to the world. He has purchased stevia and stevioside extracts from them at a fair market value, as well as convinced them to convert their coca fields into stevia fields. According to King, the farmers have been very respective” and extremely cooperative.” Due to his hard work, Steviva Brands has established itself as one of the largest importers of stevia based goods. Steviva products can be purchased in your local health food stores or on-line at http://www.steviva.com. Note to self… the Steviva web site has hundreds of free recipes for sugar free and low carb dieters.

Thanks to these new sugar substitutes, there is hope for the low-carb dieters who have challenges suppressing their cravings for sweets. Health enthusiasts and carb counters alike can now wave goodbye to their guilt and say, Please pass the Steviva bowl!”
