"Discovering Dominga" Wins Best Documentary in Film at the Imagen Awards

Latino Public Broadcasting is proud to be associated with "Discovering Dominga" and producer Patricia Flynn, winner of Best Documentary in Film Award at the 19th Annual Imagen Awards held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel last night.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 27, 2004 -- Latino Public Broadcasting is proud to be associated with "Discovering Dominga" and producer Patricia Flynn, winner of Best Documentary in Film Award at the 19th Annual Imagen Awards held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel last night.

When LPB decided to contribute financially to "Discovering Dominga," we never thought it would become such a success on public television and in the festival circuit,” said Luca Bentivoglio, executive director of LPB.

This award validates our mission, which is to support quality programming and independent producers with great stories that address the Latino experience in the U.S.,” added Edward James Olmos, chairman of Latino Public Broadcasting.

"Discovering Dominga" is a documentary about Denese Beckers journey of self-discovery. She decided to return to the Guatemalan village where she was born to find her roots which turn out to be filled with harrowing revelations. Denese, born Dominga, was nine when she became the sole survivor of her family after a massacre of Maya peasants. Two years later, she was adopted by an American family. In "Discovering Dominga," Denese's journey home is both a voyage of self-discovery and a political awakening, bearing searing testimony to a hemispheric tragedy and a shameful political crime.

LPB is funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a private, non-profit corporation created by Congress in 1967. The mission of CPB is to facilitate the development of, and ensure universal access to, high-quality programming and telecommunications services. It does this in conjunction with non-commercial educational telecommunications licensees across America.
