New Wireless System from Tri-State and Navini Key to Emergency Response Sandersville, GA Uses New Technology to Prepare for Hurricane Frances

A small town in rural Georgia uses latest wireless Internet technology for hurricane responders.

Sandersville, GA (PRWEB) September 4, 2004 -- – Just one week from getting the system up and running, Sandersville, Georgia is putting its newest addition to data services to the test. We have the City set up for this emergency, thanks to the new system," stated Sandersville Fire Chief and Washington County EMA Director Russell Riner.

The emergency vehicle directors are set up with laptops, battery back-ups and portable modems so communication can continue in the event of a power interruption. The broadband radios have even been set up to give the emergency personnel ‘network precedence, which means that they have preferential access on the wireless Internet system. Live video feed from mobile cameras have been deployed utilizing the system giving the directors the ability to direct all emergency operations in real time. Riner stated in the event we open one of our shelters, we are prepared to use the new system to communicate between activated shelters and allow evacuees the ability to communicate with family and loved ones."

said Riner. We just didnt know we would have to use it so soon.
The system was installed by Tri-State Broadband last month and is just out of beta testing. We designed the new system in part for emergencies and to enable our first responder personnel," said Riner. We just didnt know we would have to use it so soon."

The system can provide a broadband Internet connection from as far away as 9 miles," stated John Overley, Tri-State Broadband, vice president of sales and marketing. Sandersville is the first one of our clients to deploy mobile first responder capabilities. While we hope that there are minimal losses due to the storm, we are also happy to be a part of helping the city to better protect its citizens."

The system operates on the unlicensed 2.4 GHz band, and uses a Navini Networks wireless broadband solution along with other wireless technologies.
