The 2nd Dallas Palestinian Film Festival is a four day event featuring thought-provoking, informative and artful films. Distinguished speakers and authors such as Norman Finkelstein will guide discussions with audience members prior to and proceeding films.

On Thursday, September 16h, the second annual Dallas Palestinian Film Festival will open with the documentary, “Selves and Others” at the

MAC Theater. The film depicts the life and work of the late Palestinian American intellectual, Edward Said.

Said is well-kown for his ground breaking book “Orientalism.” The film will be followed by speaker Professor Marc Ellis. (Ellis will be

launching the 3rd edition of his book, Toward a Jewish Theology of Liberation, during the four day festival). The Festival will feature a dozen films on Palestinian art, culture, history and the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence.

Distinguished speakers include:

Norman Finkelstein, Marc Ellis, Robert Jensen, and Stav Adivi (Ex-reserve Major with the Israeli Army who refused to serve in Gaza and the West Bank). The Festival will be highlighted by a lecture and entertainment dinner, Saturday, Sept. 18th. Norman Finkelstein will be the keynote speaker.

Entertainment includes:

comedian Preacher Moss, Debka Dance, musician David Rovics. Also featured will be a local choir performing traditional Palestinian songs. “It is our ambition to continue to bring a unique selection of films on Palestine to Dallas,” Iyas Maleh, president of the DFW based United for Peace and Justice, stated, “We are proud that Dallas will be the first city to show excerpts of the upcoming film “Obstacle” and present the acclaimed film “Rana’s Wedding.” Dr. Ali Sinnorot, a founding member of United for Peace and Justice, looks forward to the opening night event, commenting, “we are very excited to debut the film ‘Selves and Others,” it is an excellent documentary about a remarkable man.”
