JEA Purchases Advanced Meter Information System (AMIS) from eMeter Corporation

eMeter Corporation announced today that JEA of Jacksonville, Florida has licensed eMeters Advanced Meter Information System (AMIS) to enable the utility to realize greater benefits from its Network Meter Reading investments.

Redwood City, CA (PRWEB) September 15, 2004 -- eMeter Corporation announced today that JEA of Jacksonville, Florida has licensed eMeters Advanced Meter Information System (AMIS) to enable the utility to realize greater benefits from its Network Meter Reading investments. JEA will use the Power Information Platform by eMeter (PIPe) in conjunction with the utilitys fixed-network advanced metering system for over 360,000 electric and nearly 300,000 water meters. In addition, Enspiria Solutions TM will provide the project management and software services for integrating eMeters Advanced Meter Information System with JEAs customer billing, customer web services, and outage management systems.

"We are extremely pleased about implementing this new data and system management functionality and with the experienced team of eMeter and Enspiria Solutions personnel," said Jim Dickenson, JEA's Chief Operating Officer, "A system such as this is absolutely necessary to get the greatest value out of our fixed network AMR system."

eMeter will install and configure the PIPe over the next 12 months, providing JEA with several AMIS capabilities. They include a centralized usage data repository, equipment, asset and administrative data storage, and automated data, asset, and service management processes and tools to enable utility business process improvements.

As the core of JEAs meter data management strategy, the PIPe will capture and store meter readings from JEAs wireless network meter reading system, MV-90 meter data collection system, and the existing hand-held, manual meter reading systems. Data will be consolidated in the PIPe, validated for integrity and accuracy, and tied to JEAs billing, CIS, work management, and other information systems. In addition, the
PIPe will provide enhanced support for outage tracking, transformer load management,
planning and engineering applications, communications network management, and energy theft detection.

As we near the completion of the installation of our fixed network meter reading system, we are beginning to put into place the functionality for the data services we have always planned on. This is the most exciting part of our NMR deployment, turning the data we are beginning to receive into business intelligence so that JEA can continue to improve our processes and continue on the road to being the best service provider in the nation," said Victor Monfort, Director IT Projects. eMeters PIPe software and Enspirias implementation skills will help us realize these much anticipated range of benefits from our wireless network meter reading system in a timely manner."

We are excited to be working closely with JEA on this project," said Larsh Johnson, President and CTO of eMeter. JEA has a forward-looking data strategy that positions them extremely well for continual enhancements to their customer service and operating productivity for many years to come."

"JEA, like many utilities, is characterized today by ever increasing requirements on service reliability, stability, and cost effectiveness. JEA is prospering by maximizing its efficiencies across the entire enterprise and asset base. Enspiria, in partnership with eMeter, looks forward to providing JEA with a comprehensive solution to further enhance JEAs operational efficiencies and asset performance," said Ivo Steklac, President of Enspiria Solutions.

eMeter's PIPe is an enterprise-class application that supports and maintains advanced metering information using a proprietary data model and automated support for advanced metering business processes. The PIPe incorporates all the functionality required to deliver accurate and reliable data to utility applications. It is web-based, enabling desktop access to utility employees, business partners, and customers. The PIPe architecture scales from thousands to millions of on-line meters and includes a high-capacity messaging backbone and distributed application servers. Intelligent interface adapters integrate with utility and client legacy systems with minimal disruption to existing billing, outage, and distribution management systems. The PIPes meter and communications independence ensures support of new technologies as they emerge, making a utility client's infrastructure as "future proof" as possible.
