Tapperware Releases Version 4 of its Genealogy Application for Palm OS®
New Version of My Roots is Faster and More Powerful Than Ever
ATLANTA, GA (PRWEB) September 19, 2004 -- Tapperware, a developer of shareware applications for Palm OS® handheld computers, today announced the release of version 4 of its My Roots application. My Roots allows genealogy enthusiasts to have their family tree data with them at all times. It works in conjunction with all the popular desktop genealogy applications for computers running Microsoft Windows® or Mac OS®.
The new version features support for sources and citations, a graphical relationship calculator, and is substantially faster than prior versions. Other enhancements include support for a third given name, unlimited number of notes up to 32k each, improved filtering, and a more convenient soundex calculator. My Roots now supports minimizing, maximizing, and rotating the screen on all PalmOne and Sony devices that implement the Dynamic Input Area.
"We really listened to our customers when we designed My Roots Version 4," said Thomas Ward, President of Tapperware. "Users are constantly telling us what tools they need to be more effective genealogists, and this version addresses all of those issues. The ability to record evidentiary information, in the form of sources and citations, is a key requirement for professional genealogists and serious hobbyists who want to take their research to the next level. And we think users will really like the relationship calculator, which actually shows you the people through which two people are related."
Genealogy Community Supports My Roots
"I have been a user of the My Roots program since the Fall of 2000. Research is much easier with a PDA and My Roots than with notebooks and realms of paper," said Chris Hansen, a member of Orange County California Genealogy Society and Group Leader of the Computer Special Interest Group. "Each version of My Roots has been improved over the previous version, but version 4.0 is much more than just an improvement, it is a step forward. Immediately you notice that Version 4.0 is much faster. I particularly like the unlimited Notes per person, the Relationship Calculator, and the support for Sources and Citations. In addition there are many more standard features that make Version 4.0 a 'must have' for serious Genealogists."
"My Roots v4 is intuitive, easy to install, and easy to work with," said Laura Prescott, a Macintosh columnist for Genealogical Computing magazine. "These have always been positive attributes of the application and the newest version does not disappoint. The newest capabilities are lots of fun. Working with large family files is speedier. I've already had an occasion to use the relationship calculator, which is really cool. I wish I'd had it at a recent reunion when we were trying to figure out how we were all connected and how many 3rd cousins we had. The new source citation links are critical for using My Roots in research facilities. When I'm ready to check a fact and see a source listed already, it prevents me from duplicating efforts or rechecking any sources I have already looked at."
My Roots Provides Instant Access to Genealogy Data
Genealogists make frequent research trips to libraries, courthouses, and cemeteries, and also gather data at family reunions. On these occasions, a small handheld computer that fits in a purse or shirt pocket is much more convenient than a stack of 3-ring binders or even a laptop computer. My Roots allows the user to copy data from his favorite desktop genealogy application onto his handheld computer. This data can then be viewed and modified, and newly acquired data can be entered right on the handheld. Updated data can then be written to a GED file for incorporation back into the desktop application. My Roots provides numerous powerful features including a surname list, individual and family group views, ancestor and descendant charts, relationship and soundex calculators, searching, filtering, and sorting capabilities, and support for unlimited notes and sources.
