‘Guerilla Guide To Politics A Hit in Georgia

This October, Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) Education will air ‘Guerrilla Guide to Politics (GGP) to over 2000 K-12 schools, 64 public libraries, and 70 post-secondary institutions as part of the Georgia Secretary of States Civics Month" initiative.

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) September 22, 2004 -- This October, Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) Education will air ‘Guerrilla Guide to Politics (GGP) to over 2000 K-12 schools, 64 public libraries, and 70 post-secondary institutions as part of the Georgia Secretary of States Civics Month" initiative. GPB Education delivers high quality educational resources such as GGP to the Georgia learning community via both satellite and the Internet, allowing students in both rural and urban areas to access a wealth of educational resources that can enhance their classroom experience. In addition to serving Georgia learners, GPB Education serves as a model for other states wishing to use educational technology to impact student learning on a statewide scale.

Guerrilla Guide to Politics," a fun, irreverent, content rich television program aimed at encouraging our young people to vote, will be used as a teaching tool for Georgia educators as they prepare their students to participate in Civics Months culminating event: a statewide mock election to be conducted entirely online. Guerrilla Guide" was created to reverse the decline of voting by our young people. Jim Rettew, creator and host remarked, I think young people are more alienated than apathetic. They do care about the process but feel ignored by the candidates. Guerrilla Guide" teaches them how to get their voices heard and why it matters."

Having the state of Georgia use this program, statewide, to enrich the teaching of civics, is a very exciting development," says Bunnie Strassner, Executive Director of Fascinating Learning Factory, who produced of the program. It proves what we have believed all along: Guerrilla Guide" is a valuable asset to any organization interested in promoting youth voting and service learning."

Guerrilla Guide" broadcast rights are available to any station in the PBS network.
