BAMnet Launches Nationwide RADIO-TO-PHONE Service for First Responders

BAMnet Releases Radio-to-Phone Service to Address One of Problems Listed by the 9/11 Report.

Hamilton, NJ. (PRWEB) September 24, 2004 -- BAMnet, Corp. announced the availability of its Radio-to-Phone service for first responders today . The service allows police, fire and other first responders to use the tactical radios to make and receive phone calls on the public telephone systems. The system will also allow radios of different frequencies talk to each other. No longer will a first responder be out of communications as happened on 9/11. BAMnet has developed and deployed the service in conjunction with numerous local telephone companies in response to the deaths on 9/11 attributed the lack of communications.

The service is not the ultimate solution" said Tony Townsend, Director of Business Development for BAMnet. He went on to say, The service provides a solution for the first responders while a nationwide wireless solution is put into place". A nationwide wireless system is viewed as a long-term solution but it will take years and lots of money to put in place. The Department of Justice along with other Federal Agencies have begun 10 billion dollar, five-year project to build out a nationwide law enforcement wireless system (see http://www.publicsafetywins.gov).

Mr. Townsend said, We feel that the service will be maintained by most police and fire departments as a backup system even after the wireless network is in place." Wireless systems can suffer from interference and congestion making a backup a good idea." BAMnet undertook the effort in response to an article in the New York Times, which attributed the deaths of many firefighters to the lack of communications." The expansion to Radio-to-Phone service was a natural progression. BAMnet has provided single number; dialup Internet access on a metered (per minute) basis for a number of years and metered radio-to-phone worked well with the Companys business model. The technology to provide radio-to-phone connectivity has been available for sometime but it has never been offered as a service. BAMnet maintains a full time support service in the US and can be reached at (609) 631-8356.
