Lighting the fires of liberty, one monitor at a time

Badnarik Campaign Launches Improved Web Site

Austin, TX - More than a decade after the Libertarians became the first American political party to launch a web site, the Internet remains Libertarian occupied territory" – and as the clock winds down on Novembers presidential election, Libertarian presidential candidate Michael Badnarik is launching version 2.0″ of his campaigns web presence.

Since the nomination, weve taken our Internet presence from virtually zero to top tier," says Steve Gordon, Badnariks communications director. We left Ralph Naders site lying in the dust almost immediately, and no other ‘third party candidate has left a noticeable footprint.

Gordons been down this road before. As manager of film producer Aaron Russos campaign for the LPs presidential nomination, he also saw his candidate eclipse Nader on the Internet.

Now were moving into direct competition with George Bush and John Kerry … so we decided it was time to bring in the big guns."

The new site, located at www.badnarik.org, was developed by the Burntwing team, a group of accomplished web designers including Gary DuVall, Eric Lanehart, Lance John Romanoff and Stephen VanDyke.

Its more visually appealing," says Gordon. The links to useful information are more easily located, which should enhance the sites stickiness. We already average more than six page views per user, but we know that the longer a voter stays, and the more a voter learns about our candidate, the more likely that voter is to support Badnarik in November."

And," Gordon adds, the front page content remains more current via linkage with the campaign blog."

The site re-launch was briefly postponed after Badnarik was selected for an online interview" by the popular site Slashdot. The Slashdot effect is well known," says media coordinator Thomas L. Knapp. Even getting mentioned there drives traffic through the roof. Ours tripled overnight, and we wanted to wait for a drop, or at least a plateau, before doing changeover work. Code migration always reveals problems, and ‘rush hour is a bad time for problems."

Traffic seems set to remain high as Badnarik travels the country. The latest Zogby poll estimates his support at 1.2%, a number supported by previous Rasmussen polls which show him at 1% nationwide and garnering growing support in the southwest. Badnarik will be on voters presidential ballots in 49 states and the District of Columbia.
