John Richard Petersen graduated from East Leyden High School in 1979 and studied theatre at the University of Arizona before relocating to Southern California. BALDERDASH, the new game show on PAX TV starring comedian Elayne Boosler, had been auditioning for contestants when John decided to try out for a game show. The auditions for BALDERDASH, taped at KTLAs Tribune Studios in Hollywood, began with a short written test based on questions from the show. Those that pass the test get to play a mock version of the game in front of contestant recruiters. BALDERDASH calls on comics and actors to present information that may or may not be true and asks the contestants to decide if it is truth or Balderdash as they bet points. The one with the most points gets to play for the big prize in the final round. Besides meeting the incredibly funny Elayne Boosler John met and conversed with such comics as French Stewart (3rd Rock From The Sun), Joanne Worley (Laugh In), Bob Zany (recent co-host of the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon) and John Moschitta (Balderdash Announcer and Americas Fastest Talker!) John plays a perfect game and goes on to the final round where he won a shopping spree to Michael C. Fina in New York City.
