International Profit Associates (IPA-IBA) executives attended the September 18, 2004 ceremony when Lieutenant Colonel Eugene Cheatham, Jr., received his Eagle Scout award after three years of efforts on his behalf.

IPA-IBA senior executives, Robert O’Keefe, John Murnane, Al Bachman and Rich Lubicz petitioned three years to the Boy Scouts of America, President George H. Bush and former President Gerald R. Ford for approval to award Cheatham with his Eagle Scout Rank.

The ceremony, held at the San Diego Air and Space Museum in Balboa Park, drew a crowd of more than 400 people including friends, family and fellow Tuskegee Airmen. The program included a Boy Scout candle ceremony, speeches regarding his years as an Airman and Eagle Scout by IPA-IBA and a presentation of gifts to Cheatham for his achievements. IPA-IBA awarded Cheatham a bronzed eagle statue.

“The IPA-IBA corporate staff would like to present Lieutenant Colonel Eugene Cheatham, Jr. with this eagle award to share with his family and for remembrance of this great day,” said Rich Lubicz, Director of Recruiting for IPA-IBA.

Cheatham, now 89, flew more than 100 missions during the Korean War, reached the lieutenant colonel rank and then became a civilian personnel officer in both the U.S. and Japan. Cheatham retired in 1977 with his wife Sylvia and has three children, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

“Being awarded my eagle means a great deal to me. I have received many awards both in military and civilian arenas; however, there has always been a sad spot in my heart for never receiving my Eagle badge. This was my first major accomplishment and it taught me that hard work and education can prevail,” said Cheatham.

“It was very satisfying to work with Colonel Cheatham in the efforts to right the wrong of not having received his Eagle Scout for 71 years,” said Bob O’Keefe, Assistant Director of Recruiting for IPA-IBA. “I am also grateful to work with a company that offers their full support for this and many other civic activities.”
