One man promises not only to lose wieght, get healthy, and get out of debt in the next year, but to let the blogosphere in on how he did it.

While most people start New Year’s resolutions they’ll break in a week, one man’s determined to follow through, and he’s got the blog to prove it.

“The 365 Day Turnaround” ( will chronicle the day-by-day efforts of Erik Peterson to lose weight, get healthy, and get out of debt by December 31, 2005.

Peterson, a San Bernardino, CA resident hopes that making his efforts public will educate and inspire others. The blog combines witty, common-sense insight with the nosy intrusiveness of a reality show.

“I’m going to try whatever I can,” says Peterson. “If something works, I’ll tell everybody about it. If it doesn’t, I’ll admit that, too.”

He’s careful to distinguish between his site and the flurry of “beggar” sites that were popular years ago. “This blog is meant for people who couldn’t help me if they wanted to, not people with money to throw away. The point is I’m doing this without help, and they can, too.”

The 6’2” father of two currently weighs 270 pounds and has around $17,000 in debt. Can he really get rid of all that in a year?

“It’s going to happen. The potential for public humiliation should be a great motivator. But who knows? By March I might break down crying on my keyboard typing ‘I can’t do this’ over and over and over. It won’t be easy.”
