New Years Resolutions' Unfulfilled Promises

When we toast the New Year, we often make unfulfilled promises to lose weight or make healthier lifestyle changes. Doing a diet is just the beginning, one must "live a diet". Dr. Dennis Gage, M.D. offers his custom-made defensive eating techniques that work for each individual to lose weight permanently. His innovative technique called "The Red Alert Warning System" prevents people from "yo-yo'ing."

(PRWEB) January 2, 2005 -- Since Thanksgiving, we have been eating too much, not exercising, partying galore, and the experience culminates with New Years eve, the Big Bash" a major food and alcohol orgy. Yet at this very peak of indulgence, we toast our New Years Resolution, This year I am starting my diet and going to the gym".

Well, on January 2, the gyms are buzzing, the fad diets are multiplying, and one-on-one trainers are booked. Yet when I look into my crystal ball, one month later on February 1, the promises are all gone in a puff of smoke. We all know this scenario. Actions really do speak louder than words.

Dr. Dennis Gage, M.D. who is a Nutrition Expert and Endocrinologist knows this all too well. In his book, The Thinderella Syndrome: A Practical Guide to Individualized Permanent Weight Loss (Vantage Press, 2004) he tells people that weight loss diets are unrealistic and exercise programs fail when they are overextended and dont work. Doing a diet is just the beginning, it is a motivator. One must eventually live a diet". Dr. Gage says, people lack an inventory of defensive eating style" techniques. In his book Dr. Gage offers a custom-made group of behavioral interventions that, when applied, will work for each individual. He gives the following tips for permanent weight loss using his defensive eating techniques:
•   Keep a food record- It is a blueprint that is needed to rebuild your lifestyle.
•   Find alternate activities to reward yourself such as painting, going shopping, or dancing
•   Nighttime eating is dangerous- exercise or go to a movie instead of eating.
•   Dont be a slave to the scale"- Learn the Gray Zone" of dieting. The scale does not measure your success or failure.
•   If you are in a rush, eat Modular food" such as Healthy Choice frozen meals or energy bars.
•   Be prepared to defend the weight off by continuing your patterns year round. Dont be alarmed if you see one or two changes weakened during the year.
•   Through continued patterning and awareness, a person is able to maintain a healthy goal weight indefinitely, and if weight gain does occur, Dr. Gage describes his Red Alert Warning System" that restores control back to the person. This warning system is designed to prevent people from yo-yoing" after they have maintained their weight. When his patients hit their Red Alert Number" they are required to contact him to re-establish behavioral techniques that have worked for them in the past. Dr. Gage has successfully helped hundreds of patients lose weight and keep it off indefinitely.

Dr. Dennis Gage is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Clinical Nutrition. Dr. Gage is available for TV, Radio, Lectures, and Interviews. Order his book through Amazon by visiting: www.thethinderellasyndrome.com
