CAA Urges Beverage Companies to Use Stimulant-Free Solutions to Caffeine
New non-profit addresses concerns about caffeine addiction.
Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) January 2, 2005 -- The Caffeine Awareness Alliance (CAA), a non-profit organization that educates consumers about the dangers associated with caffeine intoxication & dependency, is urging beverage companies to consider using a variety of available stimulant-free alternatives as they decide to reduce or eliminate caffeine in beverage products. CAA is also asking companies to carefully consider the consequences of introducing guarana as a solution to the caffeine issue."
Guarana is a dietary supplement that contains caffeine" stated CAA Founder Marina Kushner in a letter to beverage companies. You are simply replacing one additive stimulant for another and that doesnt make any sense."
The letter also addresses the introduction of caffeine in alcoholic beverages, like beer, as nothing more than creating new drug addicts. Its bad enough that alcohol can be addicting on its own. Caffeine dependency makes matters worse. Caffeine withdrawal can include headaches, nausea, nervousness, reduced alertness and depressed mood" Kushner said in the letter. It makes hangovers from alcohol even worse!"
The letter also described the latest trends on beverage sales with consumers interested in healthy alternatives to caffeine-laden products. Water, juice and nutritionally enhanced functional beverages continue to rise creating new avenues of revenue for companies to explore.
In recent years, the American public has shown an increasing interest in, and desire to drink, healthier beverages. Coffee substitutes like Soyfee, a popular soy-based beverage, are brewed like coffee and contain no caffeine. Soy has been shown to help lower cholesterol, fight heart disease and promote healthy menopause. CAA is hopeful that beverage companies will consider using alternatives for reducing or eliminating caffeine in beverage products, as they develop and market products that maintain and improve the nutritional quality of the American diet.
