Atlanta, Ga (PRWEB) January 5, 2005
LocumTenens.com, a leading physician recruiting firm, today signaled its continued growth in 2005 with the official start-up of its Surgery Division. Former LocumTenens.com Major Accounts Manager Will Drescher heads the new surgery group, which recruits and places general and orthopedic surgeons to fill physician staffing gaps for hospitals and medical groups nationwide, LT.com President David Roush said.
ÂWeÂre Âspecialists in a handful of specialties with increasing focus on the OR (operating room), so this move makes perfect sense for us, Roush said. ÂWith his experience in recruiting physicians and building a major accounts program for our company, Will has a running start in understanding client needs for qualified surgeons.Â
Physician Specialty Needs Growing
Roush said LocumTenens.comÂs new specialty focus results from the firmÂs ongoing assessment of needs in the U.S. healthcare. ÂThe number of surgical procedures will grow rapidly over the next 15 yearsÂespecially after 2011 when the first baby boomers turn 65. Meanwhile, residency programs continue to graduate a fairly constant number of surgeons, Roush said. One 2003 study at UCLA projected that from the time of an unlikely 10-percent increase in the number of surgery slots, it would take 20 years to increase the number of practicing surgeons by five percent, he noted.
Consistent with the UCLA study, statistics from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons® indicate the number of orthopedic surgeons per 100,000 people in the U.S. grew less than one percent between 1990 and 2002.
Mobilizing to Meet Demand
ÂThe demand for qualified general and orthopedic surgeons definitely is there, Drescher said. ÂWith assistance from our free physician job board and our strong anesthesiology network, weÂre confident weÂll become a leader in surgeon staffing solutions for hospitals and medical groups very quickly.Â
A graduate of University of Central Florida in Orlando, Drescher gained several years of sales and management experience with Headhunter.net and the Hertz Corporation before joining LocumTenens.com. During his three years of recruiting and placing physicians and CRNAs for his current employer, Drescher developed a number of large, preferred-vender relationships with hospitals and medical groups across the country.
