Online Network Donates Portion of General Store Sales to Help Children and Young Adults

Gold Buckle Network (GBN™) (http://www.goldbucklenetwork.com) announced today its official support of Western Wishes Foundation, an award-winning national program that grants wishes to children and young adults who are critically ill, severely injured, or physically challenged. GBN will donate a percentage of its General Store sales to Western Wishes in honor of these courageous young people.

Western Wishes unites these inspiring children and young adults who love the Western way of life with their heroes and role models in Western sports and country music. When a GBN visitor buys a special gift for themselves or another Western enthusiast, they also make a difference in a sick or physically challenged child or young adult's life.

In its 11th year, this award-winning national program rewards the fighting spirit of children and young adults from rodeo and ranching families who have conquered or are battling cancer, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, heart afflictions, and severe head and spinal cord injuries. Celebrating their determination to get “back in the saddle again,” Western Wishes gives them and other children hope to endure the long road to recovery.

“It’s true that 20% of our kids lose the fight, mostly to cancer; but 80% of our kids are success stories and serve as shining examples of true grit and determination,” said Western Wishes Founder and Executive Director Donnalyn Quintana. “From Cheyenne to Ft. Worth, from Calgary to the National Finals Rodeo, Western Wishes has worked hard to put these kids in the spotlight. Thanks to individual donations and sponsors like GBN, the program continues to grow and offer more kids the opportunity to reach for the stars and see their wishes come true.”

Many of these youths would be turned away from traditional “wish” organizations because those organizations limit selections to terminal children under the age of 18. Western Wishes accepts both ill children and young adults who have “beaten the odds.” Recipients are predominantly rodeo competitors or ranch-raised children.

Numerous rodeo champions and country music artists have graciously participated in Western Wishes programs. For many, their first names are enough to identify them: Reba, Tuff, Shania, Ty, and Charmayne. The Western Wishes recipients who persevere daily to overcome adversity are rewarded by these gracious celebrities, each of whom possesses a heart as big as his or her name. They inspire and motivate these special kids and reinforce that they too are stars.

“The common thread we find with most Western Wishes kids is that they possess a fierce competitive spirit which allows them to focus on their goals rather than their afflictions, and that reinforces a positive outlook,” said Quintana. She adds, “Somehow, they are able to become ‘ambassadors of hope’ to others who are about to begin the long road to recovery, or who are preparing to face the end of an already too-short life.”

Western Wishes helps children and young adults through private contributions and corporate sponsorships. Individuals and organizations may volunteer or make a donation by contacting Donnalyn Quintana at (940) 898-8244.
