African American Church to Bring Racial Reconciliation Specialist to Greenville, SC for King Day

Amid controversy surrounding Jessie Jackson's call for a march in Greenville County South Carolina where King Day is not a legal holiday, a local church is bringing in a racial reconciliation specialist to help bridge the divide.

Greenville, SC (PRWEB) January 14, 2005 -- According to Bethel College and Seminary, Dr. Curtiss Paul Deyoung, is known throughout the world for his scholarship on reconciliation and success in bringing people together across racial and ethnic divides" (http://www.bethel.edu). The Reconciler" as he is affectionately known will conduct a Racial Reconciliation Conference for everyone on Monday, January 17, 2005 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Zet Court First Church of God in Greenville. The conference will help the churches and citizens of Greenville County to focus on coming together through a challenging presentation entitled, United By Faith", followed by a question and answer session with Dr. Deyoung.

Dr. Deyoung is the author of Beyond Rhetoric: Reconciliation as a Way of Life", Reconciliation: Our Greatest Challenge, Our Only Hope", and Coming Together: The Bibles Message in an Age of Diversity". United By Faith: The Multiracial Congregation as an Answer to the Problem of Race", which he co-authored with a team of sociologists, Michael O. Emerson, George Yancey, and Karen Chai Kim is his most recently released book.

Bill Hybels, Senior Pastor of Willow Creek Community Church endorsed Deyoungs latest book, saying, It filled in several pieces to the puzzle weve been working on at Willow". Cheryl J. Sanders, Professor of Ethics at Howard University School of Divinity called it, a reasoned and hopeful response to Martin Luther King Jr.s oft-quoted indictment of Christianity in America, that 'eleven oclock is Americas most segregated hour; a clear powerful articulation".

Persons who attend the free" conference will have the benefit of posing questions directly to Dr. Deyoung who will be ready to give solutions and answers out of his rich store of experience and resources. Also, attendees will be able to purchase books by Deyoung.
