Total Care Pharmacy Upset that Canadian Health Minister Wants to Stop Mail Order Pharmacy Business
Canadian Drugs Pharmacy Mail Order
Calgary (PRWEB) January 15, 2005 -- Mr. Dave Robertson, President, of one of the pioneer mail order pharmacies in Canada is upset that Canadas Health Minister, Mr. Ujjal Dosanjh wants to stop the mail order pharmacy business.
Mr. Robertson stated, American citizens have been crossing the border to purchase lower cost medications for over a decade. My company has just allowed them to now purchase these medications from the comfort of their own home. Many of my customers are seniors, or people who are under-insured or have no health insurance at all. The fact that they purchase medications from my company allows them to do it from the safety of their own home, without having to travel miles across the border, which for seniors is a big issue."
However, the Canadian Health Minister feels that countersigning prescriptions for U.S. patients without examining the patient is unethical. Mr. Robertson adamantly disagrees arguing that as long as the patient is being examined by their primary U.S. physician, the prescription is only being re-written so it can be dispensed from Canada, at a cost that the patient can afford. Mr. Robertson stated, It is much more unethical for us to turn a blind eye in assisting someone to get medication which can maybe help them prolong their life."
Some people are questioning Mr. Dosanjhs actions and wondering why he is taking this stance. As a long time human rights activist, Mr. Dosanjhs current actions go against what he has fought for in the past. If anything, he should be arguing in support of the industry and wanting to help people get safe and affordable medications, and taking up the plight of thousands of employees in Canada who may lose their jobs because of this decision.
The statements made by Mr. Robertson are being supported by other mail order pharmacies in Canada. Everyone is questioning why the Canadian Health Minister has decided to make a move that could jeopardize the health of many U.S. citizens and jobs for Canadians. Whats worse is that Mr. Dosanjhs proposal to stop prescriptions for U.S. citizens may be backed by the U.S. and Canadian government.
The Associated Press reported that Representatives of both the U.S. and Canadian government say President Bush discussed this issue with Prime Minster Martin during Bushs recent visit to Canada." This is an accusation that both governments are trying to deny.
It appears that Bush has not be able to stop U.S. citizens from getting their medications from Canada for the past decade and so now he is trying to get the help from the Canadian government to stop it. The unfortunate outcome however is that it is the American citizen who cant afford medication in the U.S. that suffers, and many Canadians may suffer as well because they will lose jobs. In most cases people look for a win-win situation, however this is one decision that it if comes to pass will be a lose-lose" situation -- which one can only say is a reflection of the government leadership.
I became a pharmacist to help people and I got into this business for the same reason." Mr. Robertson stated. I was one of the first pharmacists to provide mail order prescription services to U.S. citizens and I will continue to try to help U.S. citizens get safe and affordable medications even if their own government wont. I am working now with a number of licensed pharmacies overseas and many of my customers are now choosing to use my services to get their prescriptions filled overseas." Robertson said.
