Modern Healthcare and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) announced today the call for nominations for the 3rd annual CEO IT Achievement Award. The award recognizes one or more healthcare industry chief executive officers who demonstrate leadership and commitment to using information technology to advance their healthcare organization’s strategic goals, and is particularly prestigious because the winners are selected by the nation’s leading healthcare CEOs and CIOs.

The award is open to CEOs of any type of healthcare organization and will be judged by a panel of healthcare CEOs, CIOs and other senior-level executives from healthcare provider organizations. To nominate a CEO, visit modernhealthcare.com or himss.org. The submission deadline is February 28, 2005.

“For organizations to truly deliver the best quality healthcare to patients, CEOs must become intimately involved in information technology decisions. Those who have done so are reaping the rewards in terms of increased efficiency and better care – two elements every CEO desires,” said Chuck Lauer, publisher of Modern Healthcare.

Modern Healthcare will announce this year’s recipient(s) in the April 11 issue, and profile the recipients in a special supplement to the May 23 issue. The recipient(s) will also be honored at a banquet in Chicago on May 23.

“Information technology has become a key component of improving the delivery of patient care through the insight and integrity of healthcare CEOs,” said H. Stephen Lieber, HIMSS president/CEO. “HIMSS is pleased to join with Modern Healthcare once again to recognize the CEOs in our industry who understand and embrace the benefits information technology offers for the patients and staffs of their organizations.”
