Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 19, 2005 -- Women In Photography International (WIPI) announces a call for entries for Beauty: Camera Eye of the Beholder," an international juried online photographic exhibition of works by female photographers exploring the concept of beauty. Deadline for entries is May 1, 2005, midnight PST. Exhibition will run from June 1-August 1, 2005 at http://www.WomenInPhotography.org.

Beauty" will feature 100 juried images on WIPIs web site. The call for entries is open to professional and amateur female photographers using any photographic process. Entries must illustrate or explore beauty in one of eight categories: Photojournalism, Fashion, Portrait, Still Life, Environment, Lifestyle, Conceptual, or Architecture. Merriam-Webster Main Entry: beau·ty
Function: noun
1 : the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit : loveliness

Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder, as the saying goes. Given the subjective nature of beauty, entrants are encouraged to push the boundaries of accepted notions of beauty and show their distinctive perception of beauty. Entries can illustrate traditional ideas of beauty or explore more abstract forms of beauty.

Women In Photography International was created in 1981 as a 501.c.3 educational outreach organization by women photographers to communicate ideas, opportunities and their passion for photography. In 1985 WIPI established the Distinguished Photographers Award to honor women who have contributed significantly to the world of photography. Previous winners include Eve Arnold, Ruth Bernhard, Judy Dater, Marion Post Wolcott, Linda McCartney, Mary Ellen Mark, Ruth Orkin, Joyce Tenneson, Berenice Abbott, Annie Leibovitz and 2004 Award Winner Sylvia Plachy.

WIPIs online resource center provides member galleries, reference library, and the F2-eZine, which contains articles from around the globe, marketing news, photography links, book reviews and competition listings.

'Beauty will be an exciting exhibition showcasing the diversity of cultures and the concept of visual beauty," said Jean Ferro, Photo Artist and President of WIPI. In a world of chaos and violence, the WIPI call for entries and the resulting online exhibition will be a contrast, a virtual imprint of how female photographers see the world around them."

The exhibit is curated by Carrie Villines, photographer and WIPI Professional Member. Carrie has curated WIPIs previous two online photo exhibits, virtual * visual" and Decisive Moments."

The exhibit will become part of a historical reference in WIPI's extensive online archive at http://www.WomenInPhotography.org.

There will be a "two for the price of one" entry fee special through February 28. Also through February 28, WIPI will extend its member discount to members of the following organizations: Advertising Photographers of America (APA), American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), En Foco/NY, International Photography Award Members (IPA), National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and Society of Photographic Education (SPE).
