Bringing Basketball Back to the Basics

The Suwanee Sports Academy announces launch of basketball training program in response to growing national concerns about the status of US basketball development. SSA On Court Player Development will seek to take the game of basketball back to its fundamental roots and teach kids of all ages to play the game the way it was meant to be played.

SUWANEE, GA (PRWEB) January 19, 2005 -- In response to the mounting concern about the status of basketball development in the United States, the Suwanee Sports Academy (SSA) today announces the launch of SSA On Court Player Development. SSA On Court will seek to teach and bring the fundamentals of basketball back to the grassroots of the sport by providing players of all ages and abilities with a total training solution that offers single point management of the entire player development process.

SSA On Court Player Development will be lead by Kevin Cantwell, SSAs Director of Basketball Programs, and former Associate Head Coach at Georgia Tech and Head Coach at Appalachian State University. Kevin brings decades of coaching experience to the program, including three ACC Championships, ten NCAA appearances, and one Final Four appearance.

SSA On Court Player Development will integrate individual skill development and team skills and also place all players into competitive play environments appropriate for their development stage," explains Cantwell. Todays player spends large amounts of time learning team systems and playing games. While playing games is important to a players development, it is often so over-emphasized that competition comes at the expense of quality practice and training needed to help the player perform at his or her best."

Kenny Anderson, NBA point guard with the Atlanta Hawks and involved with SSAs programs for years, is excited about SSA offering something he believes has been lacking in the sport for decades. SSA is doing something right by creating a comprehensive solution for players where no alternative today exists," he says. SSA On Court will provide a high-quality solution for player development that teaches the individual and team aspects of the game and puts the basics of the game back into focus," Anderson comments.

As the first offering of this type anywhere in the United States, SSA On Court Player Development has been created as an annual tuition based learning environment that matches number of classes per week and intensity levels to the current grade and experience of each player.
