Silicon Valley Product Executives Launch Silicon Valley Product Group to Address the Needs of High-tech Product Managers
Martin Cagan, a veteran product executive of HP, Netscape, AOL and eBay, has founded the Silicon Valley Product Group to address the needs of high-tech product managers.
(PRWEB) January 21, 2005 -- The Silicon Valley Product Group was created to advance the role of product management. We believe that this is a significantly undervalued and misunderstood role in the industry, and that a great many product and services companies could benefit substantially by developing their capabilities in this area.
While there are good resources for software developers, project managers and designers, there are almost none for product managers, and those that do exist are typically oriented towards the needs of product marketing rather than product management and the product creation process.
Moreover, the skills of successful high-tech product management are generally not taught in academic curriculums, including most MBA programs, and there is no widely recognized organization today that promotes this new definition of the role as practiced by the most successful Silicon Valley companies.
The purpose of the Silicon Valley Product Group is to meet the needs of the high-tech product management community. We provide articles, white papers, and newsletters for this community, including capability assessments, consulting services, workshops and training.
The company has an advisory board comprised of industry leaders of successful product organizations; people who also believe strongly in the value of the effective product manager.
The Silicon Valley Product Group was founded by Martin Cagan, a Silicon Valley-based product executive with more than 20 years of experience with industry leaders including eBay, AOL, Netscape Communications and Hewlett-Packard. Before founding SVPG to pursue his interests in helping others create successful products through his writing, speaking, training and consulting, Martin was most recently Vice-President of Product Management and Design for eBay, where he was responsible for defining products and services for the companys global e-commerce trading site.
