The Radio Experience of Seattle Acquired by Broadcast Electronics

Broadcast Electronics and The Radio Experience finalize a merger of datacasting technologies that will enhance broadcasters' HD Radio and RBDS text services. New products to support "now playing" song title and artist information datacast to text-enabled receivers.

Quincy, IL (PRWEB) January 27, 2005 -- Broadcast Electronics announced today that it has acquired the assets of The Radio Experience, a Seattle radio datacasting company operated by media visionary Allen Hartle.

Hartle is widely credited with the U.S. resurgence of Radio Broadcast Data System (RBDS), an analog FM text-on-radio service also known as Radio Data System (RDS) that has seen widespread adoption by broadcasters in the Europe. He will join Broadcast Electronics as Director of Development, Broadcast Data Services.

By joining our resources with Allens and The Radio Experience, BE is reinforcing our leadership position in the future of radio data as a means for stations to build listenership and enhance revenue," said John Pedlow, President of Broadcast Electronics, the largest U.S. radio-only manufacturer of studio and transmitter located in Quincy, Illinois.

Major broadcasters such as Infinity, Susquehanna, Entercom and ABC have been using The Radio Experience to enrich listenership since 2002. Broadcasters are currently running applications developed by the firm to send now playing" information to text-enabled RBDS radios, HD Radio receivers and station websites.

When I envisioned our products being overlaid onto BEs existing products, I saw that the sum is greater than the parts," said Hartle. Our next step is to broaden the radio data applications for broadcasters who want to create brand loyalty, and revenue, in their local markets."

BE will leverage assets from the acquisition to enhance the broadcasters data offering over RBDS, the web and HD Radio, a transformational digital technology that is providing U.S. broadcasters with new opportunities in datacasting.

BE was the first to market with second-generation HD Radio technology integrating digital audio and data. The company also was the first to market with a data management system for HD Radio and RBDS.

Product-line integration is in process, with new product offerings resulting from the acquisition scheduled for announcement and availability at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) spring convention in April, 2005.

The Radio Experience will maintain its current business offices and research and development facility near Seattle, Washington.
