Making Black History: A New Genesis

Students at Morehouse College and the Atlanta University Center are changing their world by doing something different during the Africa Awareness Week, Feb 6th - 12th 2005.

(PRWEB) January 28, 2005 -- During Africa Awareness Week February 6th -12th, Morehouse is sponsoring panel discussions and seminars focusing on The African Diaspora: Bridging the Gaps between African people, Man & Woman, Caribbean/Latin America, U. S. & Africa.
   
True history of African People in the Americas, Health & Sustainability will be the primary topics. Students will train for a New G.E.N.E.S.I.S., a tree planting project in hurricane devastated Haiti for summer 2005. Hands on learning about herbs & medicinal plants, from the greenhouse & field to the table, will be launched. The Miracle Tree of Life, Moringa oleifera, will be the first tree planted. The leaves of this tree are a perfect food for humans, treating many devastating diseases; the seeds purify water.

Ambassador Andrew Young will speak Wednesday at 3:00 PM on a panel with Dr. A. Kweku Andoh, Ghanaian ethno-botanist, who will be directing the tree planting project to Haiti. Other speakers include Afro-Mexicans from Oaxaca, Mexico.
   
Week long events culminate in a Hip-Hop Concert, Saturday, February 12th to raise money for students travel to Haiti.
