Sterling Glen of Stamford Knitting Club Creates Hats and Blankets for Newborn Babies in Stamford Hospital ICU

Every Monday morning for the past year, members of Sterling Glen of Stamfords knitting club gathered together to create gifts for the babies in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Stamford Hospital.

(PRWEB) January 29, 2005 -- Every Monday morning for the past year, members of Sterling Glen of Stamfords knitting club gathered together to create gifts for the babies in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Stamford Hospital. To date, the residents of this supportive senior living community have donated over 176 caps and 117 blankets to the not-for-profit, community teaching hospital. The parents of NICU babies are truly touched by the hand-made gifts that keep their child warm and cozy," said Janice Shaskan, volunteer coordinator at Stamford Hospital. The knitting group, which continues to welcome new members, is comprised of more than 25 residents with varying levels of experience in knitting and crocheting. The more seasoned knitters are always quick to stop their own projects to aid a less experienced knitter who may have dropped a stitch or needs advice. Many of the ladies continue to crochet the blankets and caps throughout the week -- some on a daily basis. Our knitters are thrilled that their time spent crocheting benefits such a worthy cause," said Julie McGrath, who founded the group with fellow resident Edna Shute. We only hope that our caps and blankets give a bit of comfort to the newborns and their families during a difficult time."    In addition to the knitting club, Sterling Glen of Stamford residents enjoy a full calendar of social, cultural and educational programs including exercise classes and music appreciation events.
