Inspired by Article in Mother Jones Magazine, Jennifer McMullen, Owner/Designer of Dishy Duds Designs, Donates to Migrant Workforce in Californias San Joaquin Valley
After reading an article titled "Migrants No More" by Maggie Jones in the Nov/Dec issue of Mother Jones Magazine, Jennifer McMullen, of Dishy Duds Designs, decided to help out by making a sizable donation of original handcrafted clothing and handbags from her independently owned and operated company.
(PRWEB) January 29, 2005 -- Independent owner/designer, Jennifer McMullen of Dishy Duds Designs, creates a unique line of clothing and accessories for children and adults. Her items are showcased and sold on her companys website, www.DishyDuds.com.
Recently, Jennifer picked up a copy of Mother Jones Magazine and read the article titled Migrants No More," written by Maggie Jones (November/December 2004 issue). This article is available online at www.motherjones.com/. After reading the details of the conditions the migrant workforce are currently facing in Californias San Joaquin Valley, such as large families residing in homes no large than a garage space with some of the older children sleeping in cars, the long workdays with virtually no rest periods, the sparse rate of pay and work standards, and the demise of education for this group, Jennifer desperately wanted to help out. But the big question was How?"
After viewing the article online, Jennifer contacted the communications director of Mother Jones magazine. They were extremely helpful in providing the appropriate contacts to discuss the possibility of a donation from Dishy Duds Designs to the migrant workforce.
Jennifer was able to donate over $900 in retail from her clothing and accessories line to the migrant workforce during the holiday season. Along with her donation, she hopes to bring attention to the need in this area and that others will follow suit. She is also contemplating a donation drive in 2005.
