Disappointment Will Be the Most Likely Response to 2005 Pay Raises, Employers Say in HR.BLR.com Poll

Many employers are bracing to see frowns, not smiles, when they hand out employee pay raises in 2005 -- if they hand them out at all. Thats judging by the results of an online poll conducted by HR.BLR.com, a website for human-resource professionals.

Old Saybrook, CT (PRWEB) January 29, 2005 -- Many employers are bracing to see frowns, not smiles, when they hand out employee pay raises in 2005 -- if they hand them out at all. Thats judging by the results of an online poll conducted by HR.BLR.com, a website for human-resource professionals.

Asked to finish the sentence, "Employees will react to our planned raises for 2005 with..," 43 percent of the poll participants answered, "Disappointment." Another 6 percent said, "Anger." Nineteen percent answered with, "What raises?"

On the bright side, 31 percent said they expect their employees to react with "satisfaction" to their raises. One percent said they expect "glee."

The poll, conducted January 13-20, drew 348 participants.

For employers wondering whether their compensation is enough to retain top employees, HR.BLR.com -- "State HR Answers and Tools Online" -- offers the BLR 2005 Pay Budget Survey report. Prepared by Business and Legal Reports (BLR), the parent company of HR.BLR.com, it reflects the projected general pay and merit pay increases of more than 700 employers across the country. With this information, employers may compare their budgeted pay increases to those of other employers of the same size, region, and industry. Download an executive summary of the survey results at http://www.blr.com/82008400/WBP1210.
