Womens Festival of the Arts Celebrates Diversity
In honor of Women's History Month (March) The 2nd City Coucil Gallery announces the 4th annual Women's Festival of the Arts-showcasing California's female visual and performing Artists.
(PRWEB) January 28, 2005 -- In recognition of National Womens History month and International Womens Day, (March 8) The 2nd City Council announces the fourth annual Womens Festival of the Arts. The festival will be held on Saturday, March 5th and Sunday March 6th at the 2nd City Council Gallery and Performance space located at 435 Alamitos Ave., in Long Beach.
The two day festival will feature a juried visual arts exhibition, showcasing the work of women artists throughout the State of California. Mediums included painting, assemblage, welded steel sculpture, photography and mixed media. In an effort to support and promote the artists, cash awards will go to the top three artists, and one artist will receive the attention-getting Eye Opener" award.
The focus of the festival is diversity," says the event founder Cheryl Bennett. Our goal is to recognize and celebrate the talent of women from all communities and cultures," explains Bennett. In addition to visual arts, festival goers will experience live entertainment and relaxing massage, tranquil tea bar, personal care products such as handmade soaps and lotions in the mediation garden.
Presentations will include spoken word and musical offerings from over twenty-five female performers. The festival, funded in part by the Public Corporation for the Arts and the City of Long Beach, will focus on diversity and the creative spirit of women artists in Long Beach and throughout the state.
The meditation garden is a new feature to this years event. Designed by Doug Sato, the beautiful and peaceful garden is a slice of refreshing quiet in the midst of a busy city. The garden is a permanent element of the 2nd City Council Gallery & Performance Space and will remain accessible to the gallery guests throughout the year.
The event will also include vendor booths, information on women--owned businesses, food, activities for children, raffle prizes and more. Event sponsors include the East Village Association, Whittaker Music, Art Supply Warehouse and Kingston Technology.
Admission is free.
The 2005 Womens Festival of the Arts will take place on Saturday, March 5th & Sunday March 6th from noon until 4:00 PM. The Womens Art exhibition will remain on display from March 5th to April 7th at the 2nd City Council Gallery and Performance Space located at 435 Alamitos Ave., Long Beach.
