Advance Communication Technologies Announces the Integration of Greylisting Technology to Their ThwartSpam Line of CF Based Anti-Spam/Virus Network Security Appliances
The ThwartSpam EMSF-1 is the first compact flash based Anti-Spam / Virus network appliance to integrate Greylisting technology, providing an effective first line of defence against Spam, Virus and Phishing threats faced by organization everyday that do business on the internet.
Ottawa, Canada (PRWEB) February 1, 2005 -- Advance Communication Technologies announced today the addition of Greylisting to the arsenal of tools utilized by their ThwartSpam EMSF-1 Anti-Spam appliance.
The ThwartSpam Anti-Spam appliances are engineered for organizations that are experiencing a decline in productivity directly attributed to employee resources being consumed by dealing with Spam.
James Laing, President of Advance Communication Technologies, says that The addition of Greylisting to the ThwartSpam appliances will help decrease the amount of Spam your organization receives and subsequently free up network resources for your organizations day-to-day business".
Greylisting technology verifies that e-mail is being received from a SMTP compliant mail server. Verification that mail is from this type of source provides increased confidence that it will not be Spam.
When the ThwartSpam appliances receives an e-mail, a unique identifier is generated based on the senders name, IP address, and recipients name. This token is compared against and if needed, added to the appliances Greylist database. If there is no match in the database, the appliance will reject the e-mail, sending a temporarily busy signal back to the originating mail server. A SMTP compliant mail server will attempt to re-send the e-mail at a later date in the anticipation that the receiving server will be accepting messages.
When a re-transmitted e-mail is received by the ThwartSpam appliance, the generated identifier matches the one in the Greylist database, the system knows that it has already seen a delivery attempt from the senders mail server and will now accept the message, as well as any future ones from the same source.
Spammers want to remain anonymous and send their messages as quickly as possible. They use customized (and predominantly SMTP non-compliant) shoot and forget" mailers to deliver their Spam. Greylisting techniques capitalizing on the fact that most of these programs are SMTP non-compliant, and as such either do not understand or recognize the temporarily unavailable signal they receive when connecting to the ThwartSpam appliance with Greylisting enabled.
The ThwartSpam EMSF-1 is a cost effective solution for small to medium sized organizations. The ThwartSpam EMSF-1 retails for $1395 (US).
