Riverwoods Author Is "Still Working After All These Years"
Just printed in 2004, "Still Working After All These Years" is a fascinating collection of true stories. It includes profiles of workers still thriving in their seventies and beyond, as well as those who find pleasure in volunteering.
Riverwoods, IL (PRWEB) February 2, 2005 -- Riverwoods author and Licensed Clinical Social Worker Toni Rey has discovered the secret to maintaining a healthy and productive life and shares it with the readers of her newly released book, Still Working After All These Years. At the age of 66, while driving to her chiropractor because of severe back pain, Toni experienced an epiphany. She realized that work was not just financially necessary, but the source of her personal satisfaction and fulfillment. Rather than lamenting over aging and working at the age of 66, Toni decided to celebrate it by interviewing other individuals who had chosen to keep working well past what has long been regarded as retirement age and she has shared their stories by writing a book. In so doing, Toni may very well be giving us a glimpse into the future of the baby-boom generation -- the indefinite determent of retirement in favor of a productive life, which includes gainful employment as well as volunteerism.
Ive had two transformations after the age of 50," Toni said, and perhaps there will be another one in my seventies." Toni attended graduate school while three of her children were in college, completing her Masters in Social Work after a career of 20-years as an elementary school teacher. Toni transitioned out of her job as a full time teacher while working part time in the evenings as a family therapist. At the age of 53, her second full time career began - that of psychotherapist. As Toni observes, This career has many advantages because the wisdom of age and experience are seen as positive qualities to those seeking help and direction in their lives. Additionally, it can be part time, rather than full time work as one ages." Her job as a social worker led her to her second transformation. While working with a terminally ill client who needed a book to help his children accept his impending death, Toni wrote a childrens book on this subject, thus launching her career as a writer. With her second book, Still Working After All These Years, Toni has now written for a demographic at the opposite end of the age spectrum.
Still Working After All These Years answers questions such as What makes a person ready to retire?" and Why do some people seem to get so much joy from their work that they are reluctant to leave it?" as well as, Why do others use their leisure time volunteering?" The book includes a chapter with self-tests for readers to help determine their own individual work style as well as a reality" chapter, which reveals the behind-the-scenes making of this book, including the interview process.
