The Civil War Round Table at Portland State University Celebrates Its Third Anniversary on Monday, February 14, 2005
The only Civil War Round Table in the state of Oregon marks its third year of existence with a celebration and a presentation by the CWRT's co-founder, Dr. G. Thomas Edwards on the Oregon Connection to the Civil War: "Oregon Senator Benjamin Start and Civil War Dissent in 1861-82."
(PRWEB) February 4, 2005 -- The newly dedicated Gordon B. Dodds/FOH Seminar Room on the Portland State University campus is the fitting location for the 3rd Anniversary celebration of Oregon's only Civil War Round Table on Monday, February 14, 2005.
The inaugural lecture will be given at 7:30 pm by the co-founder of the CWRT, Dr. G. Thomas Edwards. The presentation is entitled: "Oregon Senator Benjamin Stark and Civil War Dissent: 1861-1862." The lecture and the anniversary celebration will take place in the Dodds/Friends of History Seminar Room located in Cramer Hall, Room 494.
The Dodds/FOH seminar room was dedicated to honor PSU's beloved professor emeritus of History, Gordon B. Dodds, who passed away in August of 2003. The joint efforts of both Drs. Dodds and Edwards helped to launch PSU's Civil War Round Table in February of 2002.
Edwards is an award-winning American History professor who retired from Whitman College in 1998 and has taught Civil War era history courses at Portland State University. He has served on the Oregon Civil War Centennial Commission and has written many papers and articles on the subject.
The mission of the Round Table is to explore all aspects of the Civil War in order to achieve a better understanding of the history and continuing impact of America's greatest tragedy through research and the presentation of scholarly works amd documentaries
