Chris Cochran Named Interim Manager of National Oregon/California Trail Center
The Board of Trustees has named Chris Cochran the Interim Manager of the National Oregon/California Trail Center for 2005. The mission of the Trail Center is the preservation, perpetuation and promotion of the heritage & history of the Oregon/California Trails and settlement of the Bear Lake Valley.
Montpelier, ID (PRWEB) February 4, 2005 -- The Board of Trustees of the National Oregon/California Trail Center has named Bear Lake native Chris Cochran as Interim Manager. She will serve under the guidance and supervision of the Boards Executive Committee.
The announcement by Kay Beck, NOCTC Trustee and Chair of the Executive Committee, said that Chris Cochrans background, experience, knowledge and dedication to the preservation of historical trails has prepared her well for the new position of Interim Manager of the NOCTC - Preserving, promoting and perpetuating the history and heritage of the Oregon Trail and settlement of the Bear Lake Valley.
"The Trustees were thrilled to learn of Chris availability and willingness to accept the Interim Management assignment at the Trail Center for 2005", said Beck. Her outstanding academic achievements demonstrate her capacity for excellence in her studies at the University of Montana, Missoula, Salish Kootenai College, a two-year Indian college at Pablo, Montana and most recently Wyoming Community College at Rock Springs. Chris is the descendent of pioneer Bear Lake settler Amos R. Wright, one of the founders of present day Bennington as well as a personal friend of Shoshone Chief Washakie.
The Interim Manager will supervise the day-to-day activities of the Trail Center including establishing and maintaining the boards polices and procedures, booking and scheduling of bus and student tours.
The Trail Center Board of Trustees has adopted a curator-collection program for the preservation of artifacts donated or loaned to the Trail Center. The program will be administered in cooperation with Idaho State University. Also, the Trustees adopted a training program for cast members of the Living History" experience under the guidance of Consultant Susan McGuire. Anyone wishing to audition to become a cast member and become certified in the interpretive program of Living History" is invited to contact Chris during winter business hours 10:00AM -- 2:00PM at the Trail Center.
Chris Cochran brings firsthand experience as a participant in the 150th anniversary commemoration of the California Gold Rush of 1849 wagon train that began its journey from St. Joseph, Missouri in April of 1999. Chris walked an average of 18 to 20 miles a day like many pioneer women of the 1800s completing the arduous 2,300-mile trek four months later at Sacramento, California.
Chris said she is pleased and excited to be named the Interim Manager and be able to share her experience, enthusiasm and dedication to preserving and perpetuating the heritage and history of the Oregon/California trails with the students, visitors and tourists.
