Dr. Cherry A. Collier, the Attitude Magician, Life Coach, Author of Move Out of Your Own Way, Empowers Readers to Take One Bit at a Time in the February Issue of APCA.

What are you doing about those resolutions? For years, Dr. Cherry A. Collier realized that many of her business clients were not accomplishing their New Years resolutions. She decided to take a few of them own as her personal coaching clients and the result was the implementation of a small process that we have all used but often forget.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 5, 2005 -- How to Eat an Elephant
Question: How do you eat an elephant?
Answer: One bite at a time.
Author, Dr. Cherry A. Collier, The Attitude Magician

Lesson -- The most difficult task to complete is the one you never start."

Summary -- I can say for sure that you have to start a task if you plan to complete anything. Procrastination is one of our biggest blockers from success. We like to say, Ill do that tomorrow, Ill do that when Im married, Ill do that when I have a baby, Ill do that later." The list goes on and on and on and later never comes. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, what we really want to do, or what we say we really want to do, absolutely is not being done. This particular lesson about eating an elephant is so important because life can be a gigantic elephant for many of us. If you wanted to eat an elephant right now, would you be able to just walk up and put the entire elephant in your mouth? I know that might sound crazy, but I have to say these things because I want you to hear and feel where I am coming from. As you think about how outrageous that concept might be, you can start to think about how outrageous it might be on a daily basis for you to try to put your own elephant in your mouth everyday. We try, unsuccessfully to eat whole elephants everyday.

So I ask you, how do you eat an elephant? Rather than walking up to the elephant and trying to shove it in our mouth, break it down into bite-sized chunks. Let us make the elephant something we can manage, something we can handle. Figure out the pieces of whatever it is that is challenging you. Decide what it is you can handle at this particular point in your life.

As you think about each moment of your day, I am asking you to make them bite-sized portions. Take your time. Eat the elephant one bite at a time and create success for yourself. Figure out what you can do and do that. If you are running the marathon next year, there is no need to be concerned with how many miles you are going to run today. What you need to be concerned about is taking the first step, which may be getting on the treadmill today, for however long you can stay on the treadmill (even if its only one or two minutes). If cleaning your room is a difficult task for you, then get a timer, set it for 30 minutes and clean a portion of it. Do not think about the entire room... think about a section of it. Walk in and say, Let me clean this drawer." Do not try to clean all 12 drawers in your dresser at once. Focus on one at a time.
