KUA Serves Up Osceola's Largest Apple Pie

The titanic tart was served on Feb. 3 to nearly 2,000 residents who attended Discover Osceola, a biennial community orientation event designed for both long-time residents and newcomers to Osceola County, FL.

KISSIMMEE, FL (PRWEB) February 6, 2005 -- Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) employees on Feb. 3 unveiled Osceola County's largest apple pie at a community event held in the Kissimmee Civic Center.

The titanic tart was served to the 2,000 residents who attended Thursday evening's Discover Osceola, a biennial event designed for both long-time residents and newcomers to become better acquainted with their community. Sponsored by KUA, the Americana-themed event helped residents explore the key ingredients of economic development, employment opportunities, quality of life, environment and education.

The pie measured 10.5 feet across and two inches deep. It took 15 bushels of apples, 70 lbs. of shortening, 100 lbs. of flour, 280 lbs. of pie filling and 60 man-hours to prepare the pie that tipped the scales at more than 800 pounds. The pie was served with 185 lbs. of vanilla ice cream.

The pie was created by the bakery staff at Publix Super Markets in Hunters Creek and transported to the event by utility staff.
