"Pop Culture Named One of Top Black Websites"

Washington, DC (PRWEB) February 7, 2005 -- The Black presence on the Internet is a wellspring of political information, history and research, social commentary, and the online headquarters for countless organizations. As America's digital divide narrows,young, older, and in between are finding the web a resource. AFROCyberspace.com has selected the 13 outstanding websites of Black interest. "Pop" Culture" the homepage and blog of sports author Bijan C. Bayne, was among those named.

Websites were chosen for their cultural message, research value, timeliness and design. There were 13 sites chosen in all. The survey cited "Pop Culture"'s Bayne as "a rising star in online journalism". AFROCyberspace.com is a community of African American websites founded by Stafford Battle and Rey Harris. Battle and Harris are the authors of "The African American Resource Guide to the Internet and Online Services", published by McGraw-Hill. They recently produced the 1000+ African American Web Sites CD-ROM. They have appeared in the Washington Post, LA Times, USA Today.

"Pop Culture" has featured commentary on the presidential race, celebrity and author interviews, and reviews of t.v. series such as "Numb3rs" and "The Apprentice". In addition to his blog, Bayne contributes material to the "Sports Central", and "Sports Fan Magazine", two online magazines in publication since 1998. His columns have appeared on or been syndicated by YAHOO!Sports and FOXSports.com. Bayne is the author of "Sky Kings: Black Pioneers of Professional Basketball" (Scholastic), which was named to the Suggested Reading List of the Basketball Hall of Fame. His book reviews and travel articles have been featured in "The Washington Post", "The Boston Herald", "The Crisis", and "American Visions".
