What is Behind the Trend for People to Want All "Natural" in Everything?

Everywhere we look “natural” is “in”. Supermarkets like Wegman’s, Shaw’s, and Woodman’s are embracing natural product sections. Whole Foods Markets and Wild Oats continue to expand exponentially. Alternative health therapies are growing enormously into a multi-billion dollar industry. “Organic” is the hottest trend in grocery and personal care.WHY?

People have an innate sense of things being out of balance, of there being too many unintended consequences of too many chemicals in our lives, and they are desperately seeking something that will reduce the stress of all this chemicalsoup that we live in, and bring us back to an environment that our bodies can respond to in a natural way. It is basically a survival mechanism for humanity.

As the health care crisis explodes and more people cannot afford modern health care and do not have adequate (or any)health insurance, they are turning toward traditional methods of healing which rely on nature. Additionally, they see that Western medicine has been a conspicuous failure in certain areas such as chronic degenerative diseases, and in controlling modern day plagues such as obesity. MD’s in fact are embracing practices that used to be called “far out” such as exercise, stress reduction techniques, and whole grain foods. The US government recently revised the “food pyramid” and now is emphasizing whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

There is tremendous debate about the dangers of including “fast food” in schools and there is a growing movement toward providing healthy, natural food choices. Trends in “organic” ranging from foods to personal care products to cotton clothing are part of a growing need people are pursuing to reduce the toxic chemical load from their lives and their environment.

Focusing on the “natural” trend and its benefits to everyone in terms of better health, more energy and lower medical and pharmaceutical costs could be of tremendous interest to and benefit for just about everyone!
