Rapper Encourages "Another Columbine;" Irks High School, Community Leaders
High school administrators in the San Juan Unified School District are taking aim at underground rapper Dead Rabbit and his violent messages.

With these four lines, rapper Dead Rabbit has endeared himself to hundreds of area high school students and a thorn in the side of administrators at Casa Roble High School in Sacramento, CA.
The song, which highlights three students at Casa Roble High School and their revenge fantasies against society, has been banned at all schools in the San Juan Unified School District.
The song was based on Dead Rabbit's own experinces at Casa Roble as a student. Mixing violent, Columbine-style imagery with pop culture references, "Casa Rebel" has struck a cord with fans and a nerve with administrators.
Casa Roble's principal Vera Vaccaro has warned students that they will be expelled if they are caught with a copy of Dead Rabbit's debut album "Sex Crimes."
"If the administrators think they can squelch free speech by threatening a few students, they are sorely mistaken," Dead Rabbit said to a packed house of supporters. "They can't expel everyone, so that is our aim: by the end of the semester every student, teacher, janitor, mascot will have a copy of our cd."
Dead Rabbit has a strong underground following. "Casa Rebel" has been played in independent and internet radio stations coast to coast. With only word-of-mouth promotion, "Sex Crimes" sells an average of 40-50 copies a month, and several enthusiastic fans have been bootlegging the CD to expand his audience.
Known as Zealots, Dead Rabbit's fan base spreads across cliques and age groups. The bulk of his following is age 15-18 girls and age 16-24 men. His message of bleak poverty, violent lifestyles, and political revolt seems to have struck a cord with thousands.
"I made this album for myself. I thought, 'If I was in high school, would I like it?' Now, I realize that I wasn't alone back then. Many people went through, and are still going through, those struggles."
