Class.com, Inc. Announces CAHSEE Essential Math Course

Courseware offers comprehensive intervention for California students.

(PRWEB) February 9, 2005 -- Class.com announces the release of Essential Math, a comprehensive course specifically created as an intervention to support California students. Essential Math is a series of modules designed to help students master essential portions of the California Mathematics Content Standards, including:

- Number Sense
- Statistics, Data Analysis, and Probability
- Algebra and Functions
- Measurement and Geometry
- Algebra I
- Mathematical Reasoning

The release of Essential Math extends Class.coms mission of supporting educators in reaching at-risk and reluctant learners," said Class.com CEO Katherine Endacott. For students with significant academic deficiencies, complete courseware provides a comprehensive solution to a comprehensive problem. Class.coms context and scaffolding, combined with teacher-directed individualized instruction, make this the most appropriate intervention for students at risk of significant academic failure."

Each topic includes self-monitoring activities; quizzes are provided at the end of each lesson, and a comprehensive test is included at the end of each module. The courseware is designed so that students can either start at the beginning or be placed within the course at their knowledge level. Class.com's California standards-based lesson quizzes and comprehensive module exams can be used in assessing skill mastery for individual students.

Reading and writing is incorporated throughout the course as students participate in discussions, complete mathematical reasoning assignments, and explore mathematical websites. "Real World Connection" problems are integrated throughout the modules to help students apply their learning of mathematics to real-life situations across curriculums.

According to Lead Instructional Designer Michelle Kobza, Our instructional design stresses interactivity, active learning, and flexibility for instructors. Each module includes multimedia activities to accommodate different learning styles. The activities help build competency in all the key standards areas. In addition, the detailed mapping of the course modules to CAHSEE math objectives and state standards help teachers efficiently direct student work."
