Latest multimedia addition to AJARÂ?s pre-integrated functionality delivered by Coding Technologies

TTPCom Ltd, the world’s leading independent supplier of digital wireless technology, today announces that the Enhanced aacPlus codec (aka aacPlus v2), the 3GPP standard for high quality content delivery, will soon be available pre-integrated in AJAR, TTPCom’s advanced applications platform. This optimised implementation of the aacPlus compression technology enables TTPCom’s customers to address the growing music handset market without the need for extensive software development.

The aacPlus open standard audio codec has been adopted by 3GPP for its ability to deliver superior audio quality at the lowest possible bit rates using limited memory capacity. Consequently, leading handset manufacturers and silicon vendors have already deployed aacPlus as the key enabler for functionality such as mobile streaming or ringtone downloads. aacPlus delivers CD-quality stereo at 48 kbps, near CD-quality stereo at 32kbps, excellent quality stereo at 24kbps, and good quality for mixed content even below 16kbps mono. Now that the technology is optimised in AJAR, manufacturers can slash development and testing cycles when developing handsets with these capabilities.

Richard Walker, managing director of TTPCom’s software business unit comments: “There is a huge demand from operators to provide music capable handsets. The challenge for manufacturers is to deliver this functionality with minimal impact on cost and times to market. Now that we have pre-integrated Coding Technologies’ aacPlus codec onto our AJAR platform the implementation of the industry standard codec is as fast and efficient as possible.”

“TTPCom is integrating best of breed technologies into its AJAR platform and has therefore included aacPlus as the defacto standard for these exciting new music services,” added Oliver Kunz, vice president strategic marketing at Coding Technologies. “This enhancement will enable many more handset manufacturers to meet operators’ demands to deliver exciting new music, streaming and download functionality to their handsets. This in turn will allow operators to generate new revenues from high fidelity-quality music.”

About Ajar

The reduction in development costs and productivity benefits result in a reduced time-to-market whilst Ajar’s flexibility enables handset manufacturers to quickly and easily develop a greater selection of products with a higher level of differentiation. A number of TTPCom and third party applications are pre-integrated, including Java™, MMS, email, WAP2.0, digital camera support, embedded and downloadable games, polyphonic ringtone and music phone technology, voice recognition and multimedia content.

About Coding Technologies

Coding Technologies provides the best audio compression for mobile, broadcasting, and Internet. SBR™ (Spectral Band Replication) from Coding Technologies is a backward and forward compatible method to enhance the efficiency of any audio codec; putting the "PRO" in mp3PRO and the "Plus" in aacPlus. Parametric Stereo from Coding Technologies and Philips again significantly increases the efficiency of audio codecs for stereo signals at low bit rates. Products from Coding Technologies are fundamental enablers of open standards such as MPEG, Digital Radio Mondiale, HD Radio, and DVD.

Coding Technologies is a privately held company with offices in Sweden, Germany, and Silicon Valley. Founded in 1997 in Stockholm, the company later merged with a spin-off of the renowned Fraunhofer Institute in Germany, the inventor of MP3. Coding Technologies' customers include Nokia, Vodafone, mmO2, AOL, RealNetworks, XM Satellite Radio, iBiquity Digital, SK Telecom,
